Tagalog Words and Important Terms

Anak - child, son/daughter, offspring ipanganak (ipang-)

Ate - appellation for elder sister, used with or without the given name (term of address reference)

Comprehensive Pre-Departure Education Program for Household Service Workers (CPDEP for HSWs) - Run by the OWWA for Filipinos who will be departing shortly to work abroad as migrant domestic workers.

Lola - grandmother (term of address and reference)

Maraming Salamat - Thank you very much

Nanay - one's own mother or mother-in-law. an affectionate or honorific term for an older woman synonyms (In my case, what I call my grandmas)

Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) - Filipino migrant workers or individuals with Filipino citizenship that work in another country for a short period of time

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) - Government agency that protects and promotes welfare of OFWs and their family members

Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) - Online modules run by the POEA for Filipinos starting their process of working abroad. The English modules are provided to Skilled Workers, whereas the Tagalog modules are provided for Household Service Workers.

Sending-state(s) - A country that sends their citizens to work abroad (ex. Philippines)
